About our Walks

We welcome new walkers - you can just turn up at the walk start or phone the leader for advice on meeting up with us (find contact details on the walks page).  If you want to try a couple of walks with our Group before committing yourself, that's fine, but we would encourage you to join the Ramblers so that you can take advantage of the huge range of activities offered.   All walkers must act responsibly – you walk at your own risk.

The grid reference (GR) for the starting point of each walk is given and the sheet numbers of both the 1:25,000 Explorer (X) and the 1:50,000 Landranger (LR) Ordnance Survey maps covering the walk. Where two maps in the same series are listed, the one covering the starting point is listed first. Walks are circular unless stated otherwise.

On whole day rambles a refreshment stop will be arranged, either at a pub and/or a picnic. Members who bring a picnic should not eat their own food on pub premises without permission from the staff.  Where public transport is involved please check departure times with the operator or the leader. Train services could be subject to alterations due to engineering works.

Car sharing.  In the interests of the environment we are trialling some walks with car share and trying to encourage people who haven't already got full cars to come as well as people who do not have transport.  For five Sundays car share will be available from Crown Court CP Godalming (GR: SU 970 440) free on Sundays, also on Saturday 12th June we are using Meadrow Car Park, Godalming (GR: SU 980 448) £2.50 charge.

This programme has several figure of eight walks.  For the benefit of newcomers, a figure of eight walk begins from a particular starting point and the morning walk returns to the same point.  After lunch there is an afternoon walk which also starts and finishes at the same point.  Walkers therefore have the opportunity to choose whether to walk all day, morning only or afternoon only.

Children are very welcome on our walks, if under 18 they should be accompanied by an adult member of their immediate family or an adult holding parental responsibility. This is to accord with the Child Protection Act.

In case of an accident walk leaders should carry their own basic first aid kit which can be offered to walkers at their discretion.

Please note:  In view of the large turnouts experienced on Wednesdays, we are offering two walks on most Wednesdays, many of which will appear twice during the programme.  It is hoped that this will make numbers more manageable.  Where a walk is repeated twice during the programme, we would be grateful if you would choose to do it on the first or the second date it is offered and not on both dates.

The next programme, for the four months November 2010 to February 2011, is being compiled by Wendy Hoare 01483 574359 email: wandjhoare@tiscali.co.uk (for Saturday & Sunday walks), Nancy & Ian Wilks 01483 414778 email: nhmwilks@btinternet.com (for Wednesday walks) and Damian Wheeler 01483 422137 email: djswheeler@waitrose.com (for Thursday walks and Festival of Winter Walks).   If anyone would like to lead a walk for the first time, please contact Damian, Wendy H or Nancy & Ian.
